Die Kunst des Buchbindens

Das Buchbinden ist ein über viele jahrhunderte verfeinertes Kunsthandwerk. Ein handgebundenes Buch besticht durch seinen persönlichen Charme und akzentuiert den Inhalt des Werkes auf eine raffinierte Weise. So wird das entsprechende (Buch-)Objekt zu einem faszinierenden Unikat.

Mit den folgenden Workshops erhalten Sie einen konzentrierten Einblick in das Kunsthandwerk des Buchbindens. Die Workshops beginnen mit einer kurzen theoretischen Einführung in die Buchkunst bzw. das Buchbinden und münden in verschiedenen praxisbezogenen Übungen. Für die Workshops sind keine Vorkenntnisse nötig. Jede interessierte Person kann an einem, zwei oder allen drei Workshops teilnehmen.

Workshop 1

Japanisches Buchbinden

Ziel:

    Die kunst der japanischen buchbinderei erlernen. Eine vielfältige, elegante und stabile Buchform, welche mit einer vielzahl von materialien ausgeführt werden kann.
    Sie lernen mit einfachen Mitteln ein Buch zu binden, ohne eine eigene Werkstatt zu benötigen.

Programm:

    Wir werden mit verschiedenen japanische Heftungen und Papieren experimentieren, aufzeigend wie man diese dekorativen Heftungen für Fotoalben, Tagebücher, Skizzenbücher oder Buchkunst Projekten einsetzten kann. Ziel ist, mindestens ein kleines Beispiel und ein grösseres buch mit festem Deckel fertig zu stellen. ich hoffe sie werden inspiriert nach hause gehen und eine ganze Kollektion von japanischen Büchern herstellen.
    Diese Buchform eignet sich sehr gut für Klassenprojekte (mit kleinen wie auch grossen Händen), da die Heftung schnell verständlich ist und man lose Papiere benützen kann.

The Hybrid Book is almost here! Don’t miss over 100 artists, toolmakers, and vendors displaying work for sale, alongside exhibitions of internationally reknowned artists who interrogate the book as art, in its many forms.
The Hybrid Book Fair will take place on Friday, June 5, and Saturday, June 6, from 1-6 PM on two floors of The Gershman Y, located at 401 South Broad Street, Philadelphia, PA, 19147.

The Hybrid Book Exhibit brings together the internationally renowned work of Irma Boom, Gunnar A. Kaldewey, and Hedi Kyle. Curated by Susan Viguers, Director of the MFA Book Arts/Printmaking Program, this exhibition is on display at Rosenwald-Wolf Gallery, 333 South Broad Street, Philadelphia, PA 19102, from June 2-30. Gallery hours: M-F 10-5 (W 10-8), S & S 12-4.

Art To Be Read brings together over fifty recent works of MFA Book Arts/Printmaking Alumni, who are now active practitioners of the book and related arts across the United States and around the world. Art To Be Read is on display in the Hamilton Hall Galleries of The University of the Arts, 320 South Broad Street, Philadelphia, PA 19102, from June 2-30. Gallery hours: M-F 8-6.
